David J. Ertmer developed this tool for assessing a toddler’s ability to imitate and understand spoken language during the first 2 years of implant use. The task contains three separate word lists and can be administered three different times. Scores are obtained in Phoneme Accuracy (a measure of a child’s ability to imitate vowels and consonants in words), Word Acceptability (an estimate of the intelligibility of a child’s spoken words when compared to adult standards), and Word Comprehension (a measure of how well early-emerging vocabulary words are understood).
